Future Concerts and Event dates for your diary:- What's On

Page last updated: Saturday 4 January, 2020

Welcome to Midland Voices [2009 – 2020] This is our ELEVENTH YEAR!!

Our next concert is on 27 June 2020 at Warwick Arts Centre.

URGENT: Application forms 27 June 2020 [updated 4 January 2020]

A Happy New Year to all.

Please get application forms in for the 27 June concert as soon as possible. See the 'Next Concert' note below for details.

Response for forms to be received by the 31 Deadline was borderline. We have not quite reached the magic number, however Barry and Chris have today decided that we will risk going ahead. A lot of work has been put into preparation so far and there would be huge disappointment for us, those who have so far signed up and the orchestra players if we could not proceed. The hall and orchestra bookings will now be committed.

We still need at least another 50-60 application forms to reach the optimum number of 200+ to make the sound full and balanced. If you have not already done so PLEASE get the forms in or at least let Barry know by email here or by telephone (above) that they are coming!

Invite people you know who would like to try singing with us for the first time — they can always come along to the first or an early rehearsal to see what it is all about.

Forms available below and here.

Concert for Shakespeare Hospice - 7 December

A HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in and in any way supported the concerts for the Shakespeare Hospice on 7 December. Both concerts were sold out a couple of weeks beforehand and tickets were only limited because of available space.

In total the day raised a total of £6,253.50, a fantastic total — particularly as we enjoyed doing it!

Around 145 singers took part in each concert and even after 4 hours of singing were still producing an amazing sound by the end!

A lot of people were involved before and during the day in many visible and invisible ways, supported throught by Diane and Jude and their volunters from the Hospice.

So thank you to everyone.

Onwards to 27 June!

Introduction

This exciting singing organisation for the Midlands was formed ten years ago in 2009, and was directed by Barry Todd from its launch in February 2009 to June 2019.

The organisation started with one main choir rehearsing on Monday evenings. This choir typically has around 200 members and normally gives its concerts, with the 40 piece Midland Voice Orchestra, at Butterworth Hall, Warwick Arts Centre, University of Warwick.

From September 2019 Chris Wiltshire, our accompanist and more, succeeded Barry as MD for the main choir. Barry and Carol will continue to be responsible for all the background arrangements, logistics and planning for the whole company (and Barry will be back at rehearsals from time to time! The next concert date has been fixed for 27 June 2020 (see below).

Barry and Carol will continue to lead the two smaller 'Daytime' choirs that rehearse during the day in Whitnash, Leamington on Thursdays, and in Balsall Common on Tuesdays.

The Daytime choirs each have a facebook page: Balsall Singers join us on facebook and Leamington Singers join us on facebook

So Midland Voices offers a choice of three choirs, and a number of concerts each year: the main choir with unique opportunities to sing with the Midand Voice Orchestra at Warwick Arts Centre, and other performances by the daytime choirs to raise funds for local charities. The total raised for charities to 2016, is an amazing £60,000.

New Singers are always welcome. There are no auditions for the chorus, and all singers have the opportunity to audition to perform solo parts, duets or ensemble pieces in each of the concerts.

Next concert

27th June 2020 Summer Concert A Musical Journey at Warwick Arts Centre

Chris will rehearse and conduct the main summer concert involving the Midland Voices Choir and Orchestra on Saturday 27th June 2020. It will continue the Midland Voices tradition of incredible music, singing and orchestration. Another one not to be missed! See here for full rehearsal Information

The outline progamme for the concert will be published soon: a mix of entirely new items and some from the archives from many years ago!
